Northeastern Tennis made history this weekend by winning the Tennis On Campus New England Sectionals for the 3rd year straight!
Beaing Wesleyan and Brandeis during group play, Northeastern advanced to the golden bracket where they faced Boston University, Harvard and then Boston College in the final on Sunday. Determined to take the 1st place title, BC gave Northeastern their biggest challenge of the weekend. Despite NU taking four of five sets, the schools split games 25-25, forcing a super tiebreak. In the final test of the tournament, the mixed-doubles duo of Adrian Davila and Isabella Mozdzierz-Monico represented Northeastern in the tiebreak and defeated BC 7-1 to seal their 1st place victory for the 3rd straight year. “Even though this is our 3rd year in a row winning this sectional title, the feeling is still hard to describe,” said Northeastern captain, Anil Nandkumar. “We have tremendous respect for all the teams in New England, especially BC. Every single match in the final was full with amazing tennis, and came down to a few key points. It was a culmination of all the hard work and sacrifice we all had to endure to get here once again.” "Northeastern’s Roberto Lopez and Akhil Bansal won Men's Doubles 6-5(3), Isabella Mozdzierz-Monico and Julia Hostetter won Women's Doubles 6-5(2), Adrian Davilla took Men's Singles 6-5(4), Katie Gilligan fell in Women's Singles 1-6, Davila and Mozdzierz-Monico took Mixed Doubles 6-4, and the duo also closed out the match with the 7-1 super tiebreak win." Congratulations to Isabella Mozdzierz-Monico, Katie Gilligan, Julia Hosetter, Tatiana Bujnoch, Adrian Davila, Roberto Lopez, Nicky Chen Schmidt, Nick Goralka, and Akhil Bansal for playing some amazing tennis.
